NEET UG 2027 — Frequently Asked Questions

When is the NEET 2027 exam date?

NTA has not announced the NEET (UG) 2027 exam date yet (as of October 2026). For reference, NEET (UG) 2026 was first held on Sunday 3 May 2026; that exam was cancelled and re-held on 21 June 2026, with the result on 16 July 2026. Watch neet.nta.nic.in for the 2027 information bulletin.

What is the eligibility for NEET 2027?

Under the NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin, you must be at least 17 years old on or before 31 December of the exam year, there is no upper age limit, the bulletin sets no limit on attempts, and you need Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English (students appearing in Class 12 can apply). The minimum Class 12 marks for admission are set by the regulator, so check the 2027 bulletin and counselling rules.

What is the NEET exam pattern?

Under the 2026 bulletin, NEET (UG) is a pen-and-paper (OMR) exam with 180 compulsory questions — Physics 45, Chemistry 45 and Biology 90 — for 720 marks in 3 hours. A correct answer gets +4, a wrong answer −1 and an unanswered question 0. The optional-question pattern used up to 2024 was dropped from 2025.

What was the NEET 2026 qualifying cutoff?

According to NTA's NEET (UG) 2026 result, the qualifying cutoff was the 50th percentile (715–213 marks) for General and EWS, the 40th percentile (212–177 marks) for OBC, SC and ST, and the 45th percentile (212–194 marks) for General/EWS-PwBD. Is NCERT enough for NEET preparation?

The NEET syllabus is set by the National Medical Commission and its units follow the NCERT Class 11 and 12 textbooks closely, so NCERT is the base for all three subjects, especially Biology. Most students add one practice book per subject and previous year questions, particularly for Physics numericals.

How does NEET counselling work?

After the result, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling for the 15% All India Quota seats in government colleges and for AIIMS, JIPMER, central and deemed universities, in several rounds. State quota seats are filled by each state's counselling authority — in Tamil Nadu, the Selection Committee (tnmedicalselection.net).
