| Phase | Dates | Main job |
|---|---|---|
| Textbook first | November to January | Finish both volumes of every subject; book-back answers and derivations |
| JEE Main Session 1 (if you take it) | 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027 | Entrance focus for about three weeks, without dropping board revision |
| Practicals | 8 to 18 February 2027 | Experiments and records, in your school |
| Full revision | 19 February to 2 March | 12 days: one pass over your four main subjects, then the last days on Tamil and English |
| Theory exams | 3 to 29 March 2027 | Revise only the next paper in each gap |
| JEE Main Session 2 | 2 to 7 April 2027 | Three clear days after the Maths paper |
The clear days in the answer box assume you have a paper on every exam day. Most students do not, so check your own subjects in the group plans below.
November to February: textbook first#
- Finish both volumes before the half-yearly exam in each subject, and write the book-back answers yourself.
- Derivations and diagrams: in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, list every derivation, mechanism and labelled diagram from the book and tick each one off only after writing it from memory.
- Part IV choices: most theory papers have either/or long answers, so be ready with both options for every chapter you can.
- Practical records: complete and get them signed by January so that February is only revision.
- From January, write one full timed paper every weekend, rotating subjects.
The 12th maths important questions and the 12th physics guide give chapter-wise practice for these two papers.
Gap-day revision plans by group#
Group names vary between schools, so match the plan to your own four main subjects. Every science group writes Tamil (3 March), English (8 March) and Chemistry (12 March); the gaps before English and Chemistry are 4 and 3 days.
Biology-Maths (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths)

Balancing the board with JEE Main and NEET#
JEE Main 2027. Session 1 applications are open until 22 November 2026 (with a late fee from 23 to 26 November), and the exam is on 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027. Session 2 applications run from 5 January to 3 February 2027, with the exam from 2 to 7 April 2027. The better NTA score of the two sessions counts. See our JEE Main 2027 page for the full schedule.
- Up to mid-January: finish the board syllabus first; the same chapters serve both exams.
- In March: board papers come first. Use each gap only for the next paper.
- 30 March to 1 April: three clear days after the Maths paper before Session 2 begins. Switch to timed computer-based mocks and practise the numerical-value section.
NEET (UG) 2027. The Union Education Minister announced on 15 May 2026 that NEET (UG) will be a computer-based test from 2027. As of 25 October 2026, NTA has not released the 2027 information bulletin or exam date, so check neet.nta.nic.in for it. Until then, keep your Physics, Chemistry and Biology board preparation strong, practise some MCQs on screen each week, and move into full NEET revision after your last board paper.
Using the 15 minutes before writing#
Writing starts at 10.15 am. Use the 10 reading minutes to find the compulsory questions and choose your A or B option in each long answer, and the 5 verification minutes to check your register number and subject. In Physics, Chemistry and Biology, choose the option whose diagram you can draw cleanly.
How to use Alfa Smart for 12th public exam preparation#
- Pick your board, class and medium. Sign up free with Tamil Nadu State Board, Class 12 and Tamil or English medium to see your subjects on the dashboard.
- Read before you write book-back answers. Use each topic's Learn tab (summary, key points, worked examples) to check your understanding, then write the answer yourself.
- Quiz every chapter after the half-yearly exam. The Practice review shows the correct answer and an explanation for each question you missed.
- Ask Gita in the Ask AI tab when a derivation or reaction step will not click.
- Add entrance practice when you are ready. The JEE section and NEET section have chapter-wise practice and timed full-length mocks with +4/−1 marking. JEE mocks use single-correct MCQs, so practise the numerical-value questions separately.
- Revise with your group in a study room: pin the topic you are revising for the next paper and mention @gita in the chat for doubts.
After the exams, our page on the TN 12th result explains how to check marks. All HSC dates and patterns are in the public exam question papers guide, and every Tamil Nadu State Board guide is on the Samacheer Kalvi hub.
