The 2027 Class 12 boards: what is confirmed#
Plan around facts, not forwarded messages.
- Dates. CBSE has not published the 2027 date sheet (tentative or final) as of 25 October 2026. The exams are expected from February 2027. Do not plan around unofficial dates.
- Paper pattern. CBSE's sample paper notification of 21 September 2026 says there is no change in the question paper design and assessment pattern for 2026-27.
- One main board exam. CBSE's two-board-exam scheme from 2026 is for Class 10. Prepare for Class 12 as a single main board exam.
Theory and practical marks
In CBSE's guidelines for practical examinations, projects and internal assessment, each subject is out of 100. The split for the main subjects is:
⇆ Swipe sideways to see the whole table
| Subject | Theory | Practical, project or internal assessment |
|---|---|---|
| Physics, Chemistry, Biology | 70 | 30 (practical) |
| Computer Science, Informatics Practices | 70 | 30 (practical) |
| Mathematics, English Core | 80 | 20 (internal assessment) |
| Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics | 80 | 20 (project) |
These figures are from the 2025-26 guidelines; CBSE has said the assessment pattern is unchanged for 2026-27, and the 2026-27 Physics curriculum confirms 70 + 30. Check your subject's 2026-27 curriculum on cbseacademic.nic.in for the details of each component.
The 90-day plan, week by week#
⇆ Swipe sideways to see the whole table
| Weeks | Priority work | Practice |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 | Finish the pending chapters in your two weakest subjects | NCERT exercises and examples |
| 3–4 | Finish all other pending chapters; make summary and formula sheets | One chapter test a day |
| 5–6 | Revision 1 for Physics, Chemistry and Maths or Biology | Error log; derivations and reactions written from memory |
| 7–8 | Revision 1 for English and your remaining subject; complete practical record and project | Writing tasks, project review with your teacher |
| 9–10 | Revision 2: high-mark units in every subject | Timed sections of the official sample paper |
| 11 | Practicals and viva at school, as your school schedules them | Practical procedures, readings and precautions |
| 12–13 | Full timed sample papers in expected date-sheet order | Mark with the official marking scheme |
On school days, aim for three focused blocks: the hardest subject first, a theory subject next, and practice questions in the evening. Our how to study effectively guide explains active recall and spaced revision, which make these blocks count.
Subject-wise method#
Physics
- List every derivation in your syllabus, and note which topics are "formula only" this year. Our derivations of Physics Class 12 page separates them chapter by chapter.
- Do numericals daily without a calculator; the 2026-27 Physics sample paper does not allow calculators.
- Draw ray diagrams, circuit diagrams and graphs neatly, with labels and units.
Chemistry
- Physical chemistry: practise the numericals from NCERT examples and exercises until each formula comes automatically.
- Organic chemistry: write named reactions and conversions from memory, then check against NCERT. Make a one-page chart of conversions between functional groups.
- Inorganic chemistry: revise from NCERT text and tables line by line; this part rewards exact recall.
Mathematics
- Finish every NCERT exercise and solved example; board questions are built on the same methods.
- Calculus is spread across several chapters, so practise integration and differentiation a little every day instead of in one block.
- Write every step. Marking schemes award marks for method, so a slip in the last line does not cost the whole question.
Biology
- Use NCERT language. Definitions and processes are marked on key terms, so learn them as the textbook writes them.
- Practise labelled diagrams and flow charts, for example of reproduction, inheritance and biotechnology processes.
- For genetics, solve crosses on paper until the steps are routine.
Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics
- Accountancy: practise formats (journal entries, ledgers, statements) and always show working notes; they carry marks.
- Business Studies: case-based questions ask you to identify a concept from a situation. Quote the line from the case that supports your answer, then explain.
- Economics: draw and label diagrams, show steps in macroeconomics numericals, and support answers on the Indian economy with points from the NCERT text.
English Core
- Practise each writing task in the format shown in the official sample paper, within the given word limit.
- Read one unseen passage a day and answer in your own words.
- For literature, know each text's theme, characters and message, and use short quotations only when they support a point.
Using official sample papers and marking schemes#
CBSE has published the 2026-27 Class 12 sample question papers and marking schemes on cbseacademic.nic.in. Our CBSE sample paper guide shows where to find them and how the marking scheme awards value points, step marks and diagram marks.
- Read each subject's paper once now, to learn its sections and question types.
- Solve sections untimed after the related chapters, and check with the marking scheme.
- In weeks 12–13, sit full papers for three hours and mark them strictly. List why you lost each mark.
Practicals, projects and internal assessment#
These 20 or 30 marks are the most predictable marks you have, so do not leave them to the last week.
- Practical record: complete it as you go, with aim, materials, procedure, observations and result for each experiment.
- Viva: be able to explain why each step is done and what each precaution prevents.
- External examiner: CBSE's guidelines say Class 12 practical examinations are conducted by an external examiner appointed by the Board. Treat the practical like a board exam.
- Schedule: in 2025-26, CBSE set 1 January to 14 February 2026 as the practical window for regular schools. Ask your school for this year's dates once CBSE issues the circular.
Balancing JEE or NEET with the boards#
- JEE Main 2027: Session 1 applications are open until 22 November 2026, and the Session 1 exam is on 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 28 January 2027. That falls inside the last phase of this plan, so from early January give JEE practice priority, but keep one board subject in each day. Session 2 is from 2 to 7 April 2027. See our JEE Main 2027 page for every official date and our JEE Main preparation guide for the study method.
- NEET (UG) 2027: the Union Education Minister announced on 15 May 2026 that NEET (UG) will be a computer-based test from 2027. NTA has not released the 2027 bulletin or exam date, so check neet.nta.nic.in. Our NEET 2027 preparation guide covers the plan.
- Overlap first. Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology in NCERT serve both exams. Learn a chapter for the board exam first, with full written answers, then add entrance-level problems on the same chapter.
- Do not drop the boards. Board marks matter for admissions and eligibility rules, so check each exam's official bulletin for the Class 12 requirement.
How to use Alfa Smart to prepare for CBSE Class 12#
- Set up once. Create a free account and choose CBSE and Class 12 during onboarding. Your dashboard shows your subjects with their chapter and topic lists.
- Finish chapters (days 1–30). For each pending topic, read the Learn tab's summary, key points and worked examples; tap Listen when you want to hear the summary. Use the Visual Guide, where a topic has one, before you draw a diagram from memory.
- Test each chapter in revision 1 (days 31–55). Take the topic's Practice quiz. The review shows your answer, the correct answer and an explanation for every question; add each wrong answer to your error log.
- Clear doubts on the day. Ask Gita in the lesson's Ask AI tab to explain one specific step, such as a line in a derivation. Mark the topic complete when you are confident, and watch your subject progress before revision 2.
- Revise in a group before tests. In a study room, pin the topic you are revising for the next sample paper, start a live video session to quiz one another, and mention @gita when the group is stuck.
- Add entrance practice. Use the JEE section or NEET section for chapter-wise practice, previous year questions by year and timed mocks with +4/−1 marking. Mock questions there are single-correct MCQs; JEE numerical-value questions are not simulated, so practise those from NTA papers.
