The 2027 SSLC calendar in four phases#
The DGE time table, announced on 14 October 2026, splits your year into four clear phases. Plan each one separately.
⇆ Swipe sideways to see the whole table
| Phase | Dates | Main job |
|---|---|---|
| Textbook first | November to mid-February | Finish every lesson and its book-back exercises; use the half-yearly exam as a pattern check |
| Practicals | 19 to 26 February 2027 | Science practical (25 of the 100 Science marks) in your school |
| Full revision | 27 February to 16 March | 18 days for a second full revision and timed papers |
| Exams and gaps | 17 March to 12 April | Revise only the next paper in each gap |
The tentative result date is 20 May 2027. DGE confirms it by press release on dge.tn.gov.in.
November to February: textbook first#
Every public paper is built on the Samacheer Kalvi textbooks, so finish them before you touch any guide.
- Tamil: prose and poetry lessons, the poems your textbook marks for memorisation, grammar and writing tasks. Our 10th Tamil guide breaks the paper down section by section.
- English: each unit's prose, poem and supplementary story, plus the grammar and writing exercises at the end of the unit.
- Maths: every worked example and exercise sum, the theorem proofs, all construction types and both graph types. The 10th maths important questions give extra practice by chapter.
- Science: book-back questions, in-text questions and every labelled diagram. Keep your practical record up to date from November so February is only revision.
- Social Science: book-back answers for History, Geography, Civics and Economics, and regular practice of the map work in your textbook.
A simple monthly rhythm:
| Month | Plan |
|---|---|
| November | Close the remaining lessons; do book-back exercises for each chapter the week it is taught |
| December | Revise for the half-yearly exam; afterwards list every question type you lost marks on |
| January | Second reading of all subjects; one full timed paper every weekend, rotating subjects |
| February | Practicals from 19 to 26 February; school revision tests; keep one timed paper a week |
Day-by-day plan for the gaps between papers#
27 February to 16 March (18 days). Spend the first 12 days on one more full revision, three days each for English, Maths, Science and Social Science. Use the last six days for Tamil only, with a full Tamil paper on two of those days. Fit the plan around any revision tests your school holds.
18 to 24 March: English (7 days).
| Date | Plan |
|---|---|
| Thursday 18 | Prose lessons and their questions |
| Friday 19 | Poems: the textbook questions on each poem |
| Saturday 20 | Supplementary stories and grammar exercises |
| Sunday 21 | Full English paper, 10.00 am to 1.15 pm |
| Monday 22 | Writing tasks from the textbook; fix the mistakes from Sunday's paper |
| Tuesday 23 | One Maths session (formula sheet) plus English grammar revision |
| Wednesday 24 | Light English revision only; sleep early |
26 to 30 March: Maths (5 days). Revise two or three chapters a day and keep the last day for one full paper. The day-wise chapter split is in our 10th maths important questions.
1 to 4 April: Science (4 days).
| Date | Plan |
|---|---|
| Thursday 1 | Physics-based units: formulas, laws and numericals |
| Friday 2 | Chemistry-based units: chemical equations, reactions and the periodic classification |
| Saturday 3 | Biology-based units: labelled diagrams and processes |
| Sunday 4 | One full theory paper, then redraw the diagrams you got wrong |
6 to 8 April: Social Science (3 days). Tuesday 6 for History, with a timeline of dates and events. Wednesday 7 for Geography and map practice. Thursday 8 for Civics and Economics in the morning and a final round of maps in the evening.
10 and 11 April: optional language. Only if you take one: one day for the textbook, one for a past paper.
How to use previous public exam papers#
The Services menu on dge.tn.gov.in has "Sample Question papers" and "Question Bank" links; check what DGE has currently posted, and ask your school for recent public and model papers. Our guide to public exam question papers explains the pattern of each paper.
- First two papers untimed, with the textbook open, to find chapter gaps.
- After that, always timed, starting at 10.00 am with the 15-minute reading and verification routine.
- Mark strictly using the marks per question, and give no marks for unfinished steps.
- Log every lost mark by chapter, then return to that chapter's book-back exercises before the next paper.
Avoid paid "guaranteed questions" files. DGE does not release questions in advance.
Answer presentation that earns marks#
- Number every answer exactly as in the question paper, and leave a line between answers.
- Maths: write the formula, the substitution and the final answer with its unit. Box the final answer.
- Science: draw diagrams in pencil, label every part, and give the definition before the explanation.
- Social Science: write long answers as short points with subheadings, and mark places on the map neatly with their names.
- Languages: keep letters and essays in the format your textbook shows, in clear paragraphs.
- Keep 10 minutes at the end to check that no question is missed.
How to use Alfa Smart for 10th public exam preparation#
- Choose your syllabus at sign-up. Create a free account and pick Tamil Nadu State Board, Class 10 and Tamil or English medium. Your dashboard lists all your subjects with their chapters.
- Close each chapter in November and December. After your teacher finishes a lesson, read the Learn tab's summary and key points, then mark the topic complete so your subject progress shows what is left.
- Quiz weak chapters in January. Take the Practice quiz for every chapter that cost you marks in the half-yearly exam, and read the explanation for each wrong answer.
- Use Visual Guides for Science diagrams where a topic has them, then redraw the diagram yourself from memory.
- Clear doubts in gap days quickly. Ask Gita in the Ask AI tab when one step stops you, instead of losing half a gap day.
- Revise with classmates. Make a study room, pin the topic you are revising for the next paper and quiz each other in the chat.
